A community film club rooted in storytelling, culture, and conversation. It begins with a focus on French cinema and will quickly expand to showcase a wide range of classic, contemporary, and underrepresented films from around the world.
Our goal is simple: to create accessible spaces where people can come together, experience great cinema, and hold real conversations about the stories that move us. We believe that films open doors to deeper reflection, healing, and connection; and we want to make that experience available to everyone.
Screenings are hosted at Berkeley Bait & Tackle, Gallery 2727, and other community spaces around the Bay Area, with events happening sporadically throughout the year. We're also partnering informally with the UC Berkeley French Enthusiast Discord to build an even bigger circle of film lovers.
Stay tuned for our first screening in May 2025 in Berkeley.
Come for the film. Stay for the conversation. Let’s build a new kind of movie night — one that belongs to all of us.
Cinéma Rendezvous – FAQ
What is Cinéma Rendezvous?
Cinéma Rendezvous is a community-driven film club created by YSP. We screen classic, contemporary, and underrepresented films — starting with French cinema and expanding outward — to spark reflection, conversation, and connection.
Who can attend?
Anyone! Events are open to all adults who are passionate about storytelling, culture, and film — or just curious to discover new perspectives through cinema.
How often do screenings happen?
Screenings will happen quarterly, with occasional pop-up events in between depending on interest and space availability.
Where are the screenings held?
Mainly at community spaces like Berkeley Bait & Tackle, Gallery 2727, and other partner venues around the Bay Area. Locations will be announced with each event.
How are films chosen?
You can suggest films! We accept ongoing film suggestions from the community. For each event, we pick a film at random from the list to keep it fresh, surprising, and inclusive.
What kinds of films do you show?
A wide range — French films, international classics, indie gems, radical documentaries, overlooked masterpieces — anything that opens a window into culture, emotion, or transformation.
Is there a discussion after the film?
Yes — we hold a casual, low-pressure conversation after each screening for anyone who wants to reflect, share thoughts, or just listen. No academic jargon — just real talk.
Is it free?
Yes! All screenings are free and community-based. Donations are always welcome if you want to help sustain future events (Venmo @yazzabearpress), but there’s no pressure.
How can I suggest a film?
You can send your suggestion to yazzabearpress@gmail.com or DM us on Instagram @yazzabearpress. All suggestions are thrown into the pool for future screenings!
